Christine Avenarius

Christine Avenarius is an experienced social scientist and researcher trained in the fields of anthropology, modern Chinese studies, and political economy. She is passionate about using anthropological insights and methodology to meet the challenges of the future. Finding ways to incorporate the 17 sustainable development goals of the UN agenda 2030 into the process of finding solutions for businesses and organizations is another focus.

She is currently working in Berlin, Germany. China and the United States are the countries where she worked the longest time periods. In addition, she has experience working in Namibia and Vietnam. Her skill set includes curricula development, research design, grant writing, grant administration, qualitative and quantitative data analysis, sustainability reporting, and conceptualizing and directing service-learning projects. Her teaching portfolio extends from courses on the four subfields of anthropology to courses on Chinese culture and society, comparison of East Asian cultures and Southeast Asian cultures, ethnographic research methods and qualitative and quantitative methods of data collection and data analysis, including text analysis and social network analysis.
