Anthropology friends, I need your support in the form of a vote!
I am up for the American Anthropological Association (AAA) Executive Board Practicing/Professional Seat. To vote, you need an active membership and would have received an email with the instructions. If you received the email, visit the voting website. If you did not receive the email, visit the AAA website and request support by selecting “AAA Elections.”
As a passionate advocate for anthropologists practicing in business, government, and non-profit, I would appreciate your consideration for the Practicing/Professional Seat on the AAA Executive Board.
A 2018 study by Speakman, R., et al. found that 79% of anthropology graduates could not find tenure-track positions, and likewise, need to work outside of academia. Due to the precarious position anthropologists face as they struggle to make the transition, I feel my advocacy could make a fruitful impact on our field.
As the creator and host of the Anthropology in Business and Anthro to UX career podcasts, I talk with guests and listeners weekly about the challenges of making the transition. They often speak to me about feeling lost in the process. Many feel like they have gaps in their training and are unsure of where to turn for help. To that end, I would like to support the AAA in making the organization a more welcoming home for practicing anthropologists.
Given my experience, I can bring a breadth of entrepreneurial and leadership expertise to the role, and build on the work I have been doing to increase the visibility and respect of anthropology outside of academia.
I appreciate your consideration.
