Adam Gamwell and I will be presenting at the upcoming Society for Applied Anthropology (SfAA) 2018 Annual Meeting in Philadelphia as part of the New Methods, Interventions and Approaches session. Our paper is titled Consulting Podcasters: Prototyping a Democratic Tool for Multiple Voices, Storytelling and Solution Finding.
Abstract
Given the rapid growth of podcasting and the experience of the authors as anthropologists and podcasters for This Anthro Life, we ask how we can work collaboratively to generate shared knowledge for shaping sustainable futures. We hypothesize that one method is to intentionally leverage the podcast medium as a democratic, educational, and social technology. Building on the traditions of design anthropology and participatory research, the paper introduces consulting podcasting: a practice of using the podcast format to bring together practitioners for real-time, open-ended, meta-narrative conversations that co-create meaningful knowledge through the emic and etic perspectives.
